Saudi Arabia: Thank you, but no thank you!

As Saudi Arabia attempts to assume the unilateral leadership role in the Arab World, it has welcomed the Palestinian issue as a component in the negotiations because it is looking for a save-face measure in front of the Arab and Muslim worlds to normalize with Israel, which seems to be one of the conditions the Biden Administration has placed on Saudi Arabia to be able to reach a historic U.S.- Saudi Arabia deal.

I offer the following draft of what I suggest Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas adopt as his speech in the upcoming General Debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly.

Genocide By Public Policy

[FROM 2004!!!] What is happening in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip today is dangerously close to genocide, close enough that photographs of terrified Palestinians in Rafah loading their meager belongings onto carts and fleeing their homes are all too reminiscent of another time, another place another people.

“Two Blue Lines” documentary explores the impact of Jewish settlement on the Palestinians

From filmmaker Tom Hayes: “Filmed over 25 years, this expansive and incisive film explores the impact of Jewish settlement on the Palestinians, from before the creation of the state of Israel to the present day. What emerges is a picture of a desperate social and political struggle punctuated by violence and segregation.” By primarily featuring the narratives of Israelis whose positions run counter to their country’s official policy, Tom Hayes provides a portrait of the ongoing conflict not often depicted in mainstream media. 1 hr 39 min, 2015.

“The Idea of Israel: A History of Power and Knowledge” by Ilan Pappe [Book Review]

Israeli historian, Ilan Pappe, takes the reader through the maze of knowledge creation in Israel and how that journey has interacted with power. The invaluable intellectual contribution and framing that Professor Pappe provides cannot be overstated. He documents for all serious researchers who follow how the dust (or more like blood) of Israel’s foundational moment has yet to settle. The events in and around 1948 that led to the creation of Israel and the colossal loss of Palestine were such a historic tragedy that even the well-oiled Israeli and Zionist public relations machines have been unable get traction to settle the historic account.
