Dear friends,

No comment needed here…you may remember when I first posted this story when it happen. This officer’s peers, soldiers there when he murdered poor Iman, turned him in…but the state found him free.  If anyone has forgotten this beautiful girl, her picture is attatched!

IDF officer cleared in death of Gaza girl to receive compensation from state

A Givati Brigade officer will receive NIS 80,000 in compensation from the state after he was cleared of all charges in relating to the death of 13-year-old Palestinian girl, Iman Al Hamas, in the much-publicized "confirmed kill" affair.

Captain "R" will receive NIS 80,000 in compensation from the state in addition to reimbursement for NIS 2,000 of legal expenses, as part of an arrangement reached between his lawyers and the military prosecution.

The agreement was made official Wednesday in the Israel Defense Forces’s Southern Command court.

The officer, who at the time of the incident was serving as a company commander in the Givati infantry brigade’s Shaked battalion, has since been promoted to major, and is currently serving as an operations officer in the brigade.

The judges who acquitted Captain R accepted his version of event, in which he stated that the shots that he fired were not aimed directly at the girl’s body. Captain R told the court he opened fire in order to create a deterrence, and that he believed that the young girl posed a serious threat.

The judges also criticized the Military Police’s investigation of the case, which was based upon a poor transcription of recorded evidence and upon the testimonies of disgruntled soldiers serving under Captain R.

    Sam Bahour is a Palestinian-American business consultant, writer, and commentator based in Al-Bireh/Ramallah, Palestine. He is the principal of Applied Information Management (AIM), a consultancy specializing in business development and startup advisory services.

He co-founded Americans for a Vibrant Palestinian Economy (A4VPE), of which he is now an emeritus member, and served as an independent director on the board of Arab Islamic Bank P.L.C. from 2004 to 2025. He currently serves on the board of Just Vision and The Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS).

    He frequently gives talks to delegations visiting Palestine on the subjects of Palestine’s political economy, Palestinian Politics 101, and a general orientation to the state of affairs under Israeli military occupation.
