As Israel destroys Gaza and Gazans, it’s policy of "voluntary ethnic cleansing" continues unstopped and unchecked.  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Arab American Institute AAI Slams Israeli Decision to Bar Arab Americans from Visiting Occupied Territories  <\/strong><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Calls on Bush Administration to Step In  <\/em><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Arab American Institute today slammed an Israeli decision to bar Arab Americans from entering Israel and the West Bank and called for the Bush Administration to immediately raise the issue at the highest levels with the Israeli government.  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

The new policy, apparently enacted recently, has already affected Arab Americans on trips for business and\/or to visit relatives in Israel and the West Bank.  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

"This is crude racial profiling and represents the worst of Israel’s systematic discriminatory policies towards Arabs and Arab Americans," said AAI President James Zogby. "We would not tolerate a country barring Americans entry because they are Jewish, Black, Asian or Latino and we certainly should not do so because they are of Arab descent."  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

AAI also expressed grave concern over media reports that U.S. consular officials in Tel Aviv stating that the U.S. views the matter as a sovereign decision by another country.  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

In denying Arab Americans entry, Israel is in clear violation of the 1951 "Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation" it signed with the U.S. Article II, Sec. 2 specifically obligates both the U.S. and Israel to grant each other’s citizens the right "to travel freely and reside at places of their choice" within each other’s countries.  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

"If the Bush Administration refuses to uphold this treaty, it is not only Israel that is at fault but the Administration as well, as it will be saying to Arab Americans that, ‘We do not care about your rights’," Zogby said. "If that is the case, we will explore legal remedies."  <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Under the new Israeli policy, Arab American Congressmen Darrell Issa (R- Ca.), Charles Boustany (R-LA), Nick Rahall (D-WV) and Ray Lahood (R-ILL) along with Senator John E. Sam Bahour<\/strong> is a Palestinian-American business consultant, writer, and commentator based in Al-Bireh\/Ramallah, Palestine. He is the principal of Applied Information Management (AIM)<\/a>, a consultancy specializing in business development and startup advisory services.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour played a foundational role in establishing two of Palestine\u2019s publicly traded companies: the Palestine Telecommunications Company (PALTEL) and the Arab Palestinian Shopping Centers (APSC). He has appeared as a commentator on NPR, CNN, BBC, and other broadcast media.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour is the co-editor of Homeland: Oral Histories of Palestine and Palestinians<\/a><\/em> (Olive Branch Press, 1993) and was profiled in the bestselling anthology Kingdom of Olives and Ash<\/a><\/em>, edited by Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, in a chapter authored by Chabon titled \u201cThe Tallest Man in Ramallah<\/a>.\u201d He holds an Associate\u2019s and Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Technology from Youngstown State University, and a Kellogg-Recanati International Executive MBA \u2014 a joint program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Recanati Business School at Tel Aviv University.<\/p>\r\n
