Before calling it a night, I feel I must pass the attached two pictures to you. They have been stuck in my mind ever since I read this morning’s paper.  I would have preferred to write an article in English about this story, and may still do so when time permits.  However, the pictures speak volumes.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

The attached are from our local Al-Quds newspaper on Nov 1, 2006. They are from a story about a 2-yr old girl who was released from an Israeli prison near Ramallah, only a few minutes from our home.  Her name is Aiysha, which in Arabic means "life."<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

Aiysha’s mother gave birth to her while detained in an Israeli prison.  Aiysha was released yesterday, her mother is still being detained under "Administrative Detention," in other words, no charge, no trial, nothing…just a unilateral Israeli decision to detain her for 6 months at a time, already renewed 4 times!<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

This poor baby.  She knows nothing in life but the walls of her mother’s prison cell.  She only knows her father from visits, when they were possible.  She has never seen a road, a city, grass, trees, a real bed, her own bedroom, a park, a real meal, friends, real toys, etc, etc.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

I weep for this girl tonight and pity the father as he is bound to be faced with her first question, "Where’s mom?," and her mom, who sleeps tonight, alone.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

May all the strength of those in solidarity with us around the world allow Aiysha to grow up without hate in her heart, and may all the Israeli soldiers that stood guard over Aiysha for the past 2-years and remained silent wake up.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

Sam Bahour<\/strong> is a Palestinian-American business consultant, writer, and commentator based in Al-Bireh\/Ramallah, Palestine. He is the principal of Applied Information Management (AIM)<\/a>, a consultancy specializing in business development and startup advisory services.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour was instrumental in establishing two of Palestine\u2019s publicly traded companies: the Palestine Telecommunications Company (PALTEL) and the Arab Palestinian Shopping Centers (APSC). He frequently gives talks to delegations visiting Palestine on the subjects of Palestine\u2019s political economy, Palestinian Politics 101, and a general orientation to the state of affairs under Israeli military occupation.<\/p>\r\n

A prolific writer on Palestinian affairs, Bahour has been published in major international outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, Haaretz, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, Al Jazeera America, Le Monde diplomatique, Al-Monitor, +972 Magazine, The Hill, and Arab News. He has appeared as a commentator on NPR, CNN, BBC, and other broadcast media.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour is the co-editor of Homeland: Oral Histories of Palestine and Palestinians<\/a><\/em> (Olive Branch Press, 1993) and was profiled in the bestselling anthology Kingdom of Olives and Ash<\/a><\/em>, edited by Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, in a chapter authored by Chabon titled \u201cThe Tallest Man in Ramallah<\/a>.\u201d He holds an Associate\u2019s and Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Technology from Youngstown State University, and a Kellogg-Recanati International Executive MBA \u2014 a joint program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Recanati Business School at Tel Aviv University.<\/p>\r\n
