Dear friends,<\/p>\n

Many of you may be following the Kafkaesque story of my friend Walid who is being detained by Israel under Administrative Detention. My latest update was posted here: http:\/\/bit.ly\/Walid_Update1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Today, Walid’s adorable daughter, Mays, 15 years old, emailed me the letter below. She asked that I share it with anyone who can help. To me, that means each and every one of us.<\/p>\n

Help me answer Mays by sharing this letter with your local Jewish community; Israel is, after all, holding him her father in their name. Ask for their assistance in bringing the issue to the nearest Israeli consulate or embassy with a simple request, send Walid home to his wife and daughters today!<\/p>\n

The phone
\nrang. It was unexpected. It was the lawyer. When we answered his voice was
\nhappy, flying in the sky, and he was so excited. We asked him what is going on
\nand he said that today he received a verdict that is one of the best verdicts
\never made for someone being held by <\/span>Israel<\/span> under Administrative
\nDetention.<\/span><\/p>\n

We were
\nsurprised and kind of mixed up so we asked what is going on one more time and he
\nanswered simply that my dad, Waleed, was going to be released in two weeks, on
\nJune 22! The next question was: what happened? He said the judge in the last
\ncourt hearing said that dad didn\u2019t have any new confidential evidence presented
\nagainst him and the Israeli military judge decided that he should be released.
\nThis is why the lawyer was so happy and he was sure that dad was going to be
\nreleased on June 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

From that
\nmoment, me, my sister, and my mom started to prepare for the reception on June
\n22nd. We started thinking of what were going to wear and which food my dad
\nprefers and the way we are going to meet him in front of the prison and many
\nother small details.<\/span><\/p>\n

But this
\nhappiness was short. Sunday was gone and we were happy because another day passed
\nand only a few days were left. This was on Sunday, but Monday came and it
\nwasn\u2019t a good day because we got bad news. <\/span>Israel<\/span> extended my dad\u2019s
\ndetention by three more months. This is the reason I have lost all hope toward
\nthese courts. The problem is that the judge, himself, said that there was no
\nnew confidential evidence and there was no reason to keep my dad in prison. So
\nwhy did they extend his time? I need an answer!<\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas
\nis gone and he is not with us. Also, Easter is gone and he still not with us. Summer
\nis going and he is not with us. All our birthdays are gone and he didn\u2019t attend
\nthem. Ramadan is coming soon and he will not be with us.<\/span><\/p>\n

So I need
\na person to tell me when my father is going to be with us in order for me to
\nknow how to plan for my future. I can\u2019t plan anything because I don\u2019t have a
\nspecific day of being with my father, so can you help me?<\/span><\/p>\n

Sam Bahour<\/strong> is a Palestinian-American business consultant, writer, and commentator based in Al-Bireh\/Ramallah, Palestine. He is the principal of Applied Information Management (AIM)<\/a>, a consultancy specializing in business development and startup advisory services.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour played a foundational role in establishing two of Palestine\u2019s publicly traded companies: the Palestine Telecommunications Company (PALTEL) and the Arab Palestinian Shopping Centers (APSC). He co-founded Americans for a Vibrant Palestinian Economy (A4VPE), of which he is now an emeritus member, and served as an independent director on the board of Arab Islamic Bank P.L.C. from 2004 to 2025. He currently serves on the board of Just Vision<\/a> and The Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS)<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

He frequently gives talks to delegations visiting Palestine on the subjects of Palestine\u2019s political economy, Palestinian Politics 101, and a general orientation to the state of affairs under Israeli military occupation.<\/p>\r\n

A prolific writer on Palestinian affairs, Bahour has been published in major international outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, Haaretz, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, Al Jazeera America, Le Monde diplomatique, Al-Monitor, +972 Magazine, The Hill, and Arab News. He has appeared as a commentator on NPR, CNN, BBC, and other broadcast media.<\/p>\r\n

Bahour is the co-editor of Homeland: Oral Histories of Palestine and Palestinians<\/a><\/em> (Olive Branch Press, 1993) and was profiled in the bestselling anthology Kingdom of Olives and Ash<\/a><\/em>, edited by Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, in a chapter authored by Chabon titled \u201cThe Tallest Man in Ramallah<\/a>.\u201d He holds an Associate\u2019s and Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Technology from Youngstown State University, and a Kellogg-Recanati International Executive MBA \u2014 a joint program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Recanati Business School at Tel Aviv University.<\/p>\r\n
